Tour Description

The island of Sri Lanka, ‘the wonder of Asia’, is one of the most exotic getaways in the world. Be it any kind of holiday trip or tour, the paradise of the Indian ocean has much to offer than one can dream of. It is a 365 day sunny destination with eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites, fifteen national parks showcasing spectacular wildlife. This tour mainly focus on the
Sites related to History. Sri Lanka, ‘a land like no other’ was well known and visited by many people even before the documented history of 550 BC. Thaprobane, Serendib, Ceylon were the some of names used to call this country at that time. According to the book ‘Mahavamsa’ (text written in Pali of the Kings of Sri Lanka), a traditional date of ancient Sri Lanka is the landing of ‘Vijaya’, who arrived in Sri Lanka (because he was banned by King Vanga of India) with 700 followers with him and ruled Sri Lanka from 543 BC – 505 BC (Modern time now: 38 years!). King Vijaya played an important role in Sri Lankan history, such as the establishment of the Kingdom of ‘Tambapanni’ etc. Another phenomenal date of ancient Sri Lanka was the arrival of Buddhism from India during the time of King ‘Devanampiya Tissa’ of Anuradhapura. Buddhism was introduced to the island by a Thera named “Mahinda”, which then integrated into Sinhalese culture. Epigraphic sources show the appearance of Buddhism around the 3rd century B.C. Then time to time the kingdom moved from one area to another due to various reasons and finally ended up in Kandy. During this period arrival of the tooth Relic of Buddha also from India marks a significant act in the history. Foreign invasions from neighbouring state and western states tried to eradicate and erase the proud history of this country. But we are lucky enough to save and preserve some of the ruins of that remarkable history monuments and present it to the world and to the future generations and specially for enthusiastic tourists to discover and explore.
